Video Games That Almost Never Saw the Light of Day

Some of the most iconic games in history were nearly canceled due to development issues, creative changes, or even a lack of confidence in their success. Here are three titles that, luckily, managed to make it to release:

Resident Evil 4

Before becoming one of the greatest survival horror action games, Resident Evil 4 went through multiple completely different versions. One of them had a paranormal theme and was eventually repurposed into Devil May Cry. Capcom almost scrapped the project entirely, but after several revisions, they created a masterpiece.

Halo: Combat Evolved
The game that redefined console shooters started as a real-time strategy game for PC. Bungie later shifted it to a third-person shooter before finally making it a first-person game for Xbox. If Microsoft hadn’t acquired Bungie at the last moment, Halo as we know it might never have existed.

Final Fantasy XV
Originally announced as Final Fantasy Versus XIII, this game spent over 10 years in development, going through drastic changes in its story and gameplay. Square Enix almost canceled it entirely, but after a complete reboot, it was finally released as Final Fantasy XV.

These games overcame chaos to become major successes, but their stories remind us that in the world of gaming, nothing is guaranteed until the very last moment. Can you imagine gaming without them?
